Child Abuse Prevention Month

April marks Child abuse prevention month across the globe, as survivors we wanted to highlight the importance for all as well as the impacts and realities. 1 in 5 children report being subjected to domestic abuse (average of 6 per classroom) yet sadly it is not something that is spoken about very often nor highlighted enough.

Children are finally for the first time recognised as victims in their own right under the Domestic abuse act 2021, we want all to understand that different impacts short and long term on children, that children live, breathe and normalise abuse and so education and prevention are key. There is so much more that could and should be done with many areas being a lottery of what support services are available for children and their recovery.

Too often abuse is minimised or excused for children or totally normalised, we created a social media campaign and resources that challenge stereotypes and myths as well as highlighting the realities and impacts across #CAPM, which can all be found on our resources page.

Our founder Vickie was invited to be interviewed about the campaign for #CAPM live on the breakfast show of Voice of Islam Radio, an in-depth 20 minute discussion, breaking some taboos and hopefully creating conversations for listeners, Vickie and our team were delighted to have had this incredible opportunity, thank you!

Watch our awareness video that highlights domestic abuse perpetrated to children whilst challenging some myths has been widely shared and used in training, please do feel free to share also.

Hopefully opening these vital conversations and raising awareness will create ripples of change but sadly abuse does not just happen one month of the year, it happens every second of every day.

As well as our Educate 2 Eradicate programme for prevention, we are proud to also provide the Freedom recovery programme for children aged 5-11years and our Teen Freedom programme for 12-16 year olds, delivered by qualified survivors in a trauma informed environment.
