International Women’s Day Event Brings Inspiration, Honesty and Community Together
On 12th March 2026, the Wokingham Town Mayor’s International Women’s Day event brought together women from across the community for an evening filled with inspiration, empowerment and heartfelt conversation.
Hosted by Wokingham Town Council, the event celebrated the strength, resilience and achievements of women while creating a space for connection, understanding and support.
Representing Kaleidoscopic UK, our CEO and Founder, Vickie, had the honour of speaking alongside two truly inspiring women — Debs from CLASP and Annette from Wokingham Foodbank. Together, they shared powerful reflections on community, overcoming adversity and the life-changing impact of supporting one another through difficult times.
A special thank you goes to Fiona Dignan, whose moving and deeply insightful poem beautifully captured the experiences, strength and spirit of women. Her words resonated throughout the room and left a lasting impact on everyone present.
During her speech, Vickie spoke openly and courageously about elements of her lived experience and reflected on how helping others ultimately became part of what saved her own life. She shared the importance of recognising the message behind #GiveToGain — that caring for others can also play a powerful role in caring for ourselves.
She also highlighted the importance of self-care and self-love, reminding attendees that women are too often judged when they choose to prioritise their own wellbeing. Yet taking care of ourselves is essential if we are to continue supporting others in meaningful and sustainable ways.
The evening was filled with warmth, honesty and genuine connection, with many attendees sharing thoughtful and emotional feedback afterwards. It served as a powerful reminder of what can happen when women come together to uplift, encourage and empower one another.
We would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to the Town Mayor for hosting such a special and meaningful event, to the incredible women who shared the stage, and to everyone who attended and contributed to such an uplifting evening.
Together, we continue to raise awareness, build stronger communities and celebrate the power of women supporting women.
