Speakers include:

Dr Jessica Taylor (FRSA, PhD) the founder of VictimFocus, the VictimFocus Blog and The VictimFocus Academy.

VictimFocus is her independent business providing research, consultancy, writing and speaking in forensic psychology, feminism and mental health. The VictimFocus Blog has 1.2 million readers per year and provides a lively, funny and critical perspective on CSE, victim blaming, feminism and sexual violence. In 2018, Jessica developed and launched the VictimFocus Charter to encourage all professionals to challenge and reduce victim blaming in their practice. She founded her third and fourth social enterprise: VictimFocus Academy and VictimFocus Resources.

VictimFocus Resources went live in April 2018 which are free for all and VictimFocus Academy will launch in a tour of free conferences in June 2019. Jessica will be running a workshop as part of the convention with useful tools for all to help prevent abuse or how to help with disclosures.

Chris Wild – survivor and author of ‘Damaged’

Chris is an activist, motivational speaker and ambassador for Care Home Kids. Chris will be speaking about his experience, children in care and how to prevent their exploitation /abuse. Chris lost his dad aged 11, leaving him to grow up in the care system. There, he witnessed the incessant physical and sexual abuse of children, with the only escape leading to the streets. Leading him to write the compelling and powerful book DAMAGED.

Chris wants to raise awareness around the topic of CSE, Serious Youth Crime, County Lines, Addiction, Mental Health for looked after children and young people in general. The basis of my work is preparation for prevention, we cannot ignore the world we live in but we can prepare our young people for the iniquities of life resulting in what will hopefully be a brighter and safer future.

Jennifer Gilmour – founder of ‘Abuse Talk’ the online forum where survivors can unite and talk about different topics.

Jennifer is an author and advocate for women in abusive relationships, using her own experiences of domestic abuse as a catalyst to bring awareness and to help others. Jennifer has published two publications, Isolation Junction and Clipped Wings which have both been Amazon Best Sellers and received awards. Jennifer speaks at events across the UK and continues to raise awareness through her blog posts, public speaking, radio interviews and social media.

Jennifer has listened to her readers and has grown a digital community to support discussions around domestic abuse online. Starting with her Twitter Chat which opened late 2017 #AbuseTalk, this developed into an online forum in 2018. This year Jennifer launched a series of interviews with those in the sector and gives followers the opportunity to ask burning questions.

Jennifer says: “Together we are Louder”.

Vickie Robertsonfounder of Kaleidoscopic UK, Child and adult domestic violence survivor and advocate.

Vickie has endured a life of abuse from childhood and adulthood as outlined in her #braveme story.

After 2.5 years of leaving her last abuser she was the first to petition for training in the family court system having experienced both the family and criminal courts due to domestic violence.

Vickie wants to show how the cycle can continue over and over until you can finally get out and that all types of abuse leave a lasting effect. Founding Kaleidoscopic UKin 2019, which provides open ended support groups and prevention programmes for all affected by domestic abuse and uniquely survivor-led.

She believes there is a strong link between childhood and adult abuse and wants more support for children as well as prevention accessible from an early age. Vickie wants to further educate all so that no one else ends up in the same cycle as her and services are better equipped to support survivors. “It takes a village to raise a family and a community to recover form abuse”

Providing an insight into the legal aspect and the loopholes of the systems involving abuse, plus practical advice on best practice approaches.

Zoe Parsonsauthor of ‘Self-love After Abuse’ Life and Relationship Coach.

Zoe’s story is a very inspirational one, from being in an extremely abusive relationship, where she experienced physical, sexual and emotional abuse to helping others heal and recover from abuse. Her first-hand experience of the effects of abuse and how damaging an abusive relationship is, as well as the entangled confusion and complexity of a power and control based intimate relationship. Being a certified Life Coach and proven track-record, specialising in helping people recover from abuse. She named her coaching practice ‘Self Love After Abuse’ because one of the first steps to healing is starting to love yourself.

Zoe is a Freedom Programme facilitator for adults and children and lectures in high schools. Zoe is a ‘Be Real’ Body Confidence Ambassador as abuse leave you feeling worthless. Zoe can help you grow self-love and to be body confident, no matter how you have been treated or what you have been told about how you look, you are beautiful, worthy and deserve so much more. Recovering from abuse takes time and on-going support.

Marilyn HawesFounder and CEO of ‘Freedom From Abuse’

As a teacher Marilyn attended many courses on Child Protection and asks why none of them gave information on how to recognise “grooming” to protect children. Her three sons were victims of grooming and abuse by their Head teacher who was both Marilyn’s boss for 10 years and best friend for 17, speaking about her LIVED EXPERIENCE.

Marilyn regularly speaks to the Media, public, organisations, schools, conferences, parents and children across the UK to break the culture of silence and resistance educating people with correct, relevant and vital information to prevent child sexual abuse and grooming by tuning into their instincts. Marilyn has been involved in many TV programs such as Chrissy B Show, ‘Judges in the Dock’ with Mark Easton from BBC. She has appeared on BBC “ Songs of Praise “ and is regularly involved with BBC News, Radio 5 Live, SKY news, Press and others. Marilyn was also awarded “Most inspirational Woman of the year 2017 “
